A2O LITE ‘NEON’ Dance Tip: The Footwork Detail You Might Be Missing

Sometimes, one small detail makes all the difference. Watch the side-by-side comparison and try the movement with me.

Learning A2O LITE’s ‘NEON’? Here’s a small footwork detail you might have missed: a brief turn of both feet and knees.

In my side-by-side demonstration, I show the same moment without the foot turn and with it. That small change gives the movement a different shape. Watch the video below to see the difference, then practice the movement slowly with me.

The ‘NEON’ footwork detail to notice

In this part of the choreography, briefly turn both knees and toes to the right, as shown in my mirrored demonstration. Pay attention to the change in direction through the lower body, rather than focusing only on the arm positions.

The turn is quick. Start slowly so you can notice it, then work it back into the rhythm of the movement.

Practice the feet first, then add the arms

As I mentioned in my ‘NEON’ choreography review, the footwork was one of the biggest challenges for me when learning this dance. For this movement, let’s start with the feet before adding the arms.

    1. Leave the arms out at first.

Focus on the foot turn shown in the demonstration.

    2. Try it slowly with counts.

Follow the counts in the video and give yourself time to feel the change in direction.

    3. Add the arms.

Keep the foot detail as you combine the lower and upper body.

    4. Return to the music.

Check that the turn is still there when you bring the movement up to speed.

You don’t have to fix everything in one practice session. Try focusing on this one detail, then record a short clip to see whether you’re keeping it when you add the arms.
